Review: Music is the Universal Source of Enlightenment, and certainly Fontain's
M.U.S.E. is a spiritually driven and groove-laden collection of music in that
vein. Indian, Eastern, and Western senses merge to create hypnotic compositions
of passion. The CD, "Fire Trance", includes 10 tunes designed to emotionally
move the listener. The first track, "Witch Fire", features skyrocketing female
vocals that reverberate octaves with waves of perpetual rhythms from drums,
guitar, and keyboard swells. Vocalist, Fontain, dances around 70's American
Pop vocals, sensuous whispers, and non-western scaled inflections. The title
track, "Fire Trance", perculates musically while Fontain sings intimately in
self-harmonized phrases. Track 3, "Tatu" pumps analog bass keys and heavy drums
while electric sitar groans beautifully. The 8th track takes a reggae turn as
"One Man" again combines instrumentation and style resulting something entirely
new - sung, 'one man's freedom is another man's chains'. The 9th track, "Pearly
Melody", is a medium tempoed sitar swooning gem. All tolled, the record's rhythms
hit their mark with accomplished instrumentation and interesting compositions.
The entire package belongs aside the stash of incense and flowing clothes as
Fontain's M.U.S.E. inspires a free flowing dance that provides the spiritual
musical movement they are clearly aiming for.
